STANDARDS OF TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION OF WATCHKEEPERS ‘95 Superyacht Crew - Before you can get a job on an ocean going superyacht you must hold the four STCW95 Basic Safety Training Certificates. United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) recognition of the STCW95 Basic Safety Training Certificates is required by 99% of superyachts which are registered in the Cayman or Marshall Islands. Please note that some STCW95 Basic Safety Training courses on offer from other training organisations are not recognised by the MCA. All our IYT training courses, including the STCW95 Basic Safety Training, are recognised by the MCA. We have provided STCW95 Basic Safety Training to over 280 superyacht crew in the last 2 years. SATURDAY AND SUNDAY - a two day Fire Prevention course
which is instructed in
compliance to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 including shipboard fire fighting
organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and
smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system
familiarization. Candidates will fight and extinguish
actual fires using fire extinguishers, fire blanket, fire hoses and branches.
You will be fully instructed in and use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and personal
protective equipment when fighting a variety of live fires and search and
rescue simulations. Practical instruction is provided by
our licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. It takes two days to
complete and is followed by a theory exam and practical assessment.
MONDAY - a one day Personal Safety and Social Responsibility course which is instructed to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices. The course is followed by a written exam. TUESDAY - a one day Personal Survival course which is instructed in compliance to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 covering emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The personal survival techniques that you learn in the classroom are then put into practice in the afternoon at the Nambour Aquatic Centre. There is a written exam for the theory and a comprehensive assessment of your practical survival techniques. WEDNESDAY - a one day First Aid and CPR course which is instructed in compliance with STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 and consists of approximately seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. The course is followed by a written exam and practical assessment. With additional private study and the completion of an assignment task book you can also sit for the Applied First Aid (formerly Senior First Aid) written and practical assessments for the issuing of a Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework at no extra charge. How to Get There
From Brisbane - Take the Bruce Highway to the Sunshine Coast. Go past
the Nambour/Mudjimba Exit and take the next exit "Parklands", then turn right
into the North Nambour Connection Rd, then turn left into the Big Cow Centre
at Ferntree Creek Rd.
From Noosa - From the Bruce Highway take the Yandina/Coolum exit. Head
towards Yandina and follow the road through to the traffic lights and turn
left onto the North Nambour Connection Rd. Turn right into the Big Cow Centre
at Ferntree Creek Rd.
Endorsements
Assuming you pass the four basic safety exams and practical assessments, it
takes at least 3 weeks to receive your STCW95 Basic Safety Course Certificate.
This certificate is issued by the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The
certificate is recognised by the United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard
Authority. Nationally Recognised Training Certificates for First Aid are also
available with extra training and assessment by
correspondence should you require them. On successful completion of the course you will receive a
nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the Elements of Shipboard
Safety and Apply First Aid training units.
Food
Bring your own lunch. Coffee and Tea are provided at no charge. Soft drinks can
be purchased at the training centre.
What to Wear
Superyacht Career Training suggests that you begin your professional Yachting
Career right now at the commencement of this course. Please wear the same type
of clothes that you would at a superyacht crew interview. Please do not wear
thongs.
Fire Fighting Days
Long pants and long sleeved top preferably of natural fibres for your safety
for practical fire fighting. Bring a change of clothes if you wish as you will
get hot and sweaty during the practical!
What To Bring With You
Writing pad and pen. Please bring your drivers licence and passport each day.
