Course Overview
FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY - a three day Fire Prevention course which is instructed in compliance to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 including shipboard fire fighting organization, the elements of fire and explosion, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarization. Candidates will fight and extinguish actual fires using fire extinguishers, fire blanket, fire hoses and branches. You will be fully instructed in and use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and personal protective equipment when fighting a variety of live fires and search and rescue simulations. Practical instruction is provided by our licensed and certified fire fighting professionals. It takes three days to complete and is followed by written and practical assessments.
MONDAY AND TUESDAY - a two day Personal Survival Techniques course which is instructed in compliance with the STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 covering emergency situations, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. The personal survival techniques that you learn in the classroom are then put into practice on the Tuesday afternoon at the Kawana Aquatic Centre. Evidence of your competencies will be gathered in the form of written and practical assessments of your survival techniques.
WEDNESDAY - a one day + online learning Apply First Aid course which is instructed in compliance with STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2 and consists of approximately seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. The course is completed with written and practical assessments.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY - a two day Personal Safety and Social Responsibility course which is instructed to STCW ’95 Code A – VI/1-2. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices. This is a very important course. Of the four courses this is the one which is dedicated to the prevention of emergencies. The course is followed by a written assessment.
